0.1. 40 years were passed,

since I designed a prosthesis which is on the way to become the world reference of the hip prostheses. Already more than two million patients go with one or the other of the prostheses resulting from my research.

While having remained relatively quiet during long years, without being held there, I find now desirable to let foresee the mass of work and technology which is so well hidden inside these tramp irons so simple of appearance.

I wrote this site with an aim of making known research and work which led to the setting-up of a innovating method of creation of orthopedic implants, in particular the methods which enabled me since 1984 scientifically to create the majority of the prostheses of Professor Karl Zweymüller.

0.2. This site is not a commercial site

This site is the result of a personal and independent work, no medical author and no business firm took part in it, so much from the point of view technical, editorial, documentary or financial.

The totality of the technical and medical informations come exclusively from my work and my participations. The presented documents, photographs and drawings come from my personal records.

The charts of the prostheses by computer and the many synthesized images always had as bases the results obtained by the graphic softwares that I entirely wrote and who form integral part of my computing system of creation of prostheses.

Some of my graphic representetions of the implants of my design, intended for documentation or publications, were placed in a noncontractual way at the disposal of the Companies which produced and marketed my implants.

I always reserved myself the right to publish my own work, including on the products which belong in freehold to the companies which market them.

The technical contents of this site are not intended for a commercial support for the quoted products nor for the companies which distribute them.

0.3. Which are the recipients of the published information

I hope that this site will interest any reader curious about scientific informations on the prostheses.

This document does not contain general presentation of the orthopedic prostheses, and is not a course.

This site will allow the Orthopedic surgeons, interested by the technological part of the analyzed implants, to better appreciate the scientific bases of them.

The conceptors, the manufacturers and the distributive firms of implants will find there many points to be analyzed, discuss, to criticize, but I also hope to apply one day.

Certain paragraphs address directly to the successors of origin manufacturers of the analyzed products.

They will be able to see in detail the reasons of some rare options, which as many rose considerations of Marketing of pure scientific convictions. The commercial collaborators will be able to take new arguments there to support their talks and to convince their interlocutors.

I would be very honoured if this site allows the Distributive firms to increase the number of the implantations, and would be satisfied that a great number of new patients profit from the reliability of these implants.

In some rare cases, by applying my total freedom of drafting, so certain passages can be interpreted like disadvantageous, I regret it.

My qualities of former Expert in the Committees of Standardization, AFNOR, CEN and ISO, from former member of the Society of Biomechanics, former lecturer at the University of Technology of Compiegne, to the Biomedical Hospital Engineers (IBMH), and more than 1000 sterile operational assistances, authorize me the opinions that I express on the implants.

0.4. Composition of this work

I held to present the Principles, essential for me, defining the lines that I endeavoured to follow for the creation of prostheses of new generation (chapter ## 2 ).

Many processes for which the need appeared during creations of the various implants are exposed in the chapters 3 and 4 while going sometimes until the detailed description of unfolding of my reflections and logics. In chapter 5 , a certain number of products are presented.

The design of certain implants is exposed very in detail and the users will find all refinements there, being quite conscious that these deepenings will not interest all the readers, but I on here the single occasion to expose them.

The not marketed projects but which have an originality and a potential of notable progress, and which are not confidential, are also exposed.

These projects required as much time and work which the marketed projects, and were advanced until a state close to the production. Their role in this document could be compared with the “concept cars” presented by the manufacturers of cars, non manufactured in series, but which give an idea of the future evolutions and contain the maximum of technological innovations. Interested companies are free to contact me.

In chapter 6, in addition to bibliographical references, references to theses and recalls of proposal for standards, the various patents which I wrote are reproduced.

0.6. Consultation of my Patents

The texts of the patents of which I was the Inventor or Co-inventor, are public and consultable free in all the countries. The access to this reading being a little hard, I preferred to facilitate the consultation of it by joining together the full texts in appendix (9.8. )

0.7. It is an “Internet “ work

This work, in its actual position, is typically a publication adapted to Internet: I envisage to frequently make there corrections, modifications, new developments. Certain chapters are still in preparation.

This bulky work of drafting cannot claim to have the editorial qualities of a treaty or a book. I do not have any claim with regard to the literary quality of my texts, my essential wish is to bring information and to be understood, that each reader finds there what relates to it.

The level of technicality and deepening of the chapters is very variable.

The various chapters having been written sometimes in several months of interval, it is not excluded that repetitions and recoveries persist. Certain repetitions are sometimes necessary for the comprehension and the logical course of the chapter in the course of consultation by the reader.

I gave up presenting real pages of computer programs. Descriptions of calculation were reformulated in a readable and comprehensible way. It seemed more useful to me to reveal the parameters taken into account and the logics implemented, as to make the methods of calculating directly applicable.

Naturally, companies wishing to apply my methods can contact me.

0.8. orrection of the errors

I am naturally ready to reconsider possible errors of technical or scientist order and to discuss them. The material errors and the imperfections of presentation are less dramatic in a publication on Internet, and will be gradually rectified, which a publication on paper would not allow.

0.9. Communication with the readers

I would be very glad to establish cordial and scientific relations with the readers, users or conceptors who wish it.

In my texts, I sometimes presented assumptions coming from my reflections and my experiment but whose formal demonstration was not made and whose laboratory experiment still remains to be made.

Certain assumptions, concepts, or ideas would deserve to be thorough and could constitute subjects of research and theses.

I already on the occasion to bring some technical councils to several students preparing their thesis of Doctorate on the prostheses which I created (6.7.4. ), and I am always been willing to assist future students on the points I am qualified to deal with.

I would be pleased to enter in communication with the readers who wish it.

The freedom which is offered to me to deliver an opinion which is not influenced by commercial considerations is larger than that of a collaborator of or even the medical author of an implant, whose natural role is to support their product.
